SUFFOLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES IN AACA’S MULTI–INDUSTRY JOB FAIR
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department recently participated in a multi–industry job fair sponsored by the Asian American Civic Association (AACA) at the Doubletree Hotel in Downtown Boston. The event, which featured over twenty–six organizations from various industries, enabled hundreds of members of the community to network with employers and learn more about various job opportunities.
Christina Chan, the Assistant Director of Human Resources at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, spoke about the importance of the Department’s participation in events such as these.
“Our involvement in these community job fairs is important because we have a diverse organization and want to expand that diversity by reaching out into the community,” said Chan.
In addition to members from the Department’s Human Resources Division, who informed potential applicants about the application process, a pair of corrections officers were also in attendance on behalf of the Department to share their personal experiences working within corrections and offer knowledge to prospective employees about building a career in law enforcement.
One of those officers, Officer Amie Le, believes that it is crucial that corrections officers have a chance to be a part of these job fairs to provide prospective employees with a chance to learn about the job from the people who do it every day.
“Our job as officers requires us to be inside a lot, so people don’t really know what we do,” said Officer Le. “It’s important for us to come out and talk to people so that they can learn more about the work that we do from our perspective.”
