Human Resources Division

The Human Resources Division has a very selective hiring process that includes the most stringent pre–employment requirements in corrections.

The minimum hiring age is 21 years, preferred applicants possess college–level degrees, and all applicants must undergo a thorough review of past job history, a character assessment and a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check. Candidates for custody positions are additionally tested for Adult Basic English, written skills, and physical fitness.

Job advancement is predicated upon proven ability and past performance. These hiring and promotional standards are coupled with annual performance assessments for all employees thereby ensuring a professional and motivated workforce that is well equipped to meet the goals and mission of the Department.

Once hired, all employees can expect to participate in regular and effective trainings covering a range of general topics (CPR, Suicide Prevention) and those more specifically tailored to their areas of responsibility (Searches and Contraband, Inmate Rights, Harm Reduction).
