Michael Lally brings over three decades of dedicated service to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, recently stepping into the role of Superintendent of the House of Correction. Since beginning his career as a CorrectionOfficer in 1994, Superintendent Lally has worked in nearly every operational area of the Department — from Unit Officer and Central Control to Transportation, Community Corrections, and the elite Sheriff’s Escort and Response Team (SERT).
Rising through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Superintendent, his leadership has extended across critical divisions including Security, Medical, Education, and both Men’s and Women’s programming. His broad experience gives him a deep understanding of the complex systems that keep the House of Correction running safely and effectively.
Superintendent Lally is also recognized for his commitment to collaborative leadership and labor relations, having worked closely with Union Locals 419, 3967, and 298. He believes that professionalism, open communication, and integrity are the cornerstones of strong leadership. His focus is on cultivating a positive, respectful work environment while ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of those in custody.
