What You’ll Do

Program highlights:

  • Interactive workshops with guest speakers from law, education, and government
  • Field trips to law enforcement agencies and partner organizations
  • Career exploration and networking with leaders in public service
  • CPR certification
  • Capstone presentation and Certificate of Completion
  • Hands-on experience you can put on a college application or résumé

Who We’re Looking For

Motivated, responsible students who are curious about public service and ready to learn. You don’t need prior experience, just commitment, good character, and a willingness to show up and grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question before you apply? Start here.

Do I need prior experience or specific grades to apply?

No. We’re looking for motivated students with good character and a willingness to learn. You don’t need prior law enforcement experience or perfect grades. We care about who you are and what you bring to the team.

How and when do I get paid?

Interns are paid $18/hour for up to 25 hours per week. Pay is processed through direct deposit, which is why we ask that you have an active checking or savings account before your first day.

What if I have vacation, summer school, or a college program in August?

The program runs July 13 through August 14, 2026, and full attendance is expected. If you have a known conflict (early college orientation, family travel, required school programming), note it on your application in the time-commitment section. We’ll review case by case, but candidates who can commit fully are prioritized.

Who can write my letters of recommendation?

Any adult who knows you in a professional or personal capacity and can speak to your character or work ethic. Good options: teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, employers, mentors, clergy, or community leaders. Family members cannot be used as references. You need at least two letters, and they must be emailed as PDFs to lg******@****ma.org with the subject line “Your Name, SEP 2026 Application.”

What is a CORI form and do I need to submit it now?

CORI stands for Criminal Offender Record Information. It’s a standard background check used by Massachusetts agencies. You acknowledge it within the application, but you don’t submit the actual CORI form until your interview. Don’t worry about completing it before applying.

I don’t live in Boston, Chelsea, Revere, or Winthrop. Can I still apply?

The program prioritizes students who live in those four communities. If you don’t, please reach out to Lucretia Goodson at lg******@****ma.org before applying so we can discuss your situation.

What does the interview involve and when does it happen?

Selected applicants will be invited to a competitive in-person interview with the program team after the application deadline. Interviews are conversational, focused on your interests, your character, and what you hope to gain from the program. Bring your CORI form, a valid photo ID, and your bank account info.

Can I save the application and finish it later?

If you sign in with a Google account before starting, your progress will save automatically. If you don’t sign in, plan to finish in one sitting (about 20-25 minutes). Either way, double-check your work before submitting because you can’t edit after submission.
