Quality healthcare, and one’s ability or inability to access it, plays a critical role in determining not only the wellbeing of the individual or even that of their immediate family, but it can also have a profound impact on the wellness of the community around them. The same holds true, if not even more so, for the people remanded into a correctional setting by the courts.

At the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, the health and wellbeing of both the incarcerated population and the Department staff who oversee their care continues to be high-priority mandate with a host of new and newly-revamped programs and services available. The Department has worked to build a system founded on the ability to offer immediate care and long-term support to the population – which has evolved in significant ways over the years.
