July 24, 2019SEP with District Attorney Rachael Rollins 7.24.19
July 24, 2019Summer Enrichment Program participants met with officers from the Choice Program at the Suffolk County Jail this morning, taking part in one of several informational briefings that they’ll receive as Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department interns. The Choice Program was created by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department to serve as a guide for children, to help them deal with some of the many issues that they face on a daily basis. The program begins by sending an officer cadre into schools and community centers across Suffolk County to meet with classes and share advice and experiences with students, while encouraging them to strive for high achievement in academics and civic engagement in their neighborhoods. Choice Officers visit with children ages 10 through 17, varying the content of each lesson according to the age group and the needs of the school or community center. The Choice Program is designed to encourage children to respect themselves and others while preparing for their futures.
