Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department’s
2025 Summer Enrichment Application Form
Launched in 2014, the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) offers young people a unique opportunity to intern with one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country and one of the largest in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This program allows participants to work alongside established professionals in law enforcement, gaining valuable insight into the criminal legal system and related fields. Throughout the seven-week program, which runs from Monday, July 7th to Friday, August 22nd, interns will engage in a variety of educational and experiential activities, including weekly presentations, roundtable discussions, and field trips to law enforcement agencies, as well as interactions with legal practitioners, civic leaders, and educators.
Hosted by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, the program selects up to twenty high school juniors and seniors from Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop area schools. Interns are compensated at a rate of $18.00 per hour, working 32 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The program includes an academic component, designed to enhance participants’ skills in preparation for the 2025 school year, in areas such as Leadership, Civics, and Street Law, as well as study skills development through the MindBoost program. Interns will also participate in “meet and greets” with professionals from law enforcement, the criminal legal system, politics, and education, providing them with networking opportunities and exposure to various career paths. By the end of the program, participants will deliver a capstone presentation reflecting on their experiences and will have completed CPR certification, along with receiving a Certificate of Completion from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. In addition to gaining insight into law enforcement, criminal justice, and politics, interns will develop transferable job skills that can benefit them in future careers.
To be considered for the program, applicants must complete a written application, participate in a competitive interview, submit a CORI form, pass a drug test, undergo a physical examination, provide a valid photo ID (such as a school ID, passport, or driver’s license), and have an active savings or checking account. Ideal candidates are mature, professional, and interested in law enforcement. Successful applicants will be notified of their acceptance by phone and will receive two department-issued polo shirts to be worn with khaki pants (not provided) throughout the program. Applications are available online at www.scsdma.org/sep2025.
