October 7, 2026Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins and members of the Department joined the Boston Area Church League (BACL) for their 24th Annual Community Fellowship Luncheon. Along with Co-Founder and Special Advisor to the Boston Red Sox Frank Jordan and members of the Board of Directors and Officers, the day’s festivities were celebrated with Boston Police Department (Official) Commissioner Michael Cox, Boston City Councilor Enrique Pepen and others who gathered to recognize BACL for their powerful and consistent community service, and honor the recipients of the awards given to special contributors to the organization’s mission. Awardees included Governor Maura Healey (not in attendance), who was named for the Ted Williams Home Run for Humanity Award; Shawn Ford, winner of the David Ortiz Most Valuable Player Award; Ronald Mitchell CEO of the Baystate Banner, winner of the Charles Ogletree, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Award; Boston Police Superintendent Juana Hernandez, recipient of the Jackie Robinson Community Leadership Award; Jacqueline Church, Winner of the Jim Rice Hall of Fame Award; Felix Berry, Recipient of the Business Leader of the Year Award; and Publisher and Editor of the Dorchester Reporter William Forry, recipient of The Trailblazer Award.
